TOGETHER
University of British Columbia’s study revealed that kids who participated in team sports experienced greater mental health benefits than those who participated in individual activities or did not take part in extra-curricular activities at all.
Playing on a team, regardless of the sport, gave kids a feeling that they and their teammates were “in this together.”


Physical activity helps healthy growth and development. It:

DRUGS
Since the drug toxicity public health emergency was declared in 2016, BCEHS* has seen a 75% total increase in annual overdose / poisoning events.

MENTAL HEALTH
Between 19.6% and 26.2% of British Columbians – somewhere around one million people – will experience a mental illness each year.
An estimated 84,000 children and youth in BC have a diagnosed mental disorder. About 68,000 youth between the ages of 15 and 24 meet the criteria for a substance use disorder.
